WHAT TO CONSIDER
BEFORE REMODELING YOUR KITCHEN

Part 4: Backsplash, Hardware, Lighting, Inspection, Paint & Finishes

Kitchen Cabinet Pulls and Handles

Some consider cabinet pulls and handles to be the jewelry of the cabinets. The design, location and size of handles and pulls can make a big difference in the “look and feel” of your finishes kitchen. Consider buying a variety of styles, sizes, and shapes to try before you order enough for all of the cabinets.

Backsplash

A fully remodeled kitchen usually has some type of tile or similar material on the walls above the countertops and below the wall cabinets. If you leave an open area around a window or above your cooking surface it’s a great place to make a statement with ceramic, glass or porcelain tile.

Light Fixtures

Each of the topics covered here could be their own entire subject, and lighting considerations for your kitchen renovation is no different. You should seriously consider incorporating a variety of lighting sources including:

1. Recessed lights in ceiling
2. Puck lights in glass cabinets
3. LED under cabinet lights
4. Pendant light(s) over the table or island
5. Natural light from windows and glass doors

Most lighting fixtures now come with an option for energy efficient LED’s that save on your electric bill yet still emit a pleasing color of light of your choice.

Painting

Don’t forget to think about and plan for a coordinating paint for the ceiling and walls. If you are looking for suggestions, Benjamin Moore and Cambria USA have teamed up to make four color suggestions for each of the Cambria USA countertops.

Final Inspection

Final inspection, if required, ask your inspector during the rough-in inspection when they need to do a final inspection.

Now it’s time to enjoy your new kitchen everyday with your friends and family.
